His Holy Glory

An encouragement from Chapter 7 of Awe of God by John Bevere:

“Which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of Lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.”
1 Timothy 6:15-16 NIV

This verse encourages us to ponder on this question: imagine a light so brilliant and pure that no darkness, shadows, fullness, or dimming can be present. Imagine this light shining in my heart. Why would I ever think about or ever want to hide anything from Him? It’s impossible.

Whilst this question is much more directed to self reflection, I have thoughts on it myself, and more questions.

If we truly love God, why don’t we spend more time in awe of Him?

If we truly want to know him, his character is His Glory, wouldn’t we want to know more of that?

Why would we want to hide from his Glory, can we even?

If God manifested Himself in your presence, what would that change? Would it change how you act? Should it even change anything, and if it does, why didn’t we have that Holy fear before, and how can we remember it always.

It’s human nature to avoid confrontation, to avoid the hard path, to avoid consequences. We are sinners, and Gods Power and Glory can be very intimidating. It moves curtains that bring light into our darkness. We must humble ourselves, and be grateful for Gods mercy and love and glory, and also be excited for the day when we can be with Him, praising Him for eternity.

So, I want to encourage you to think on this questions and that to know God, we have to begin to understand his Holy Glory!

Blessings,

Josh
