Treasure

An encouragement from Chapter 1 of Awe of God by John Bevere:

“In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord will be your treasure.” Isaiah 33:6

This verse encourages us to ponder on these questions: What does it look like, practically, to treasure holy fear? How should I approach it? How should I handle it? How do I not lose it?   Proverbs is a complete book on wisdom and its application to our daily living. One of the more common verses quoted from this book is from Proverbs 9:10 - “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

To treasure the fear of the Lord is to value and place importance in living in it. It is means to experience true intimacy with God and allows us to be transformed into the image of Jesus. To treasure holy fear is to know that the Lord also sees value in our obedience and worship of Him, as mentioned in Isaiah 33:6. Holy fear is also God’s treasure too - making it not a light concept but something to be handled with honour and respect. To not loose holy fear would require one to see importance, value and a heavenly weight, stirring a desire to seek after more of our Creator and to follow in his ways.

So, I want to encourage you to think on these questions and to know if God sees holy fear as a treasure, then so should we!
