God is for us - by YYADS
An encouragement from Chapter 2 of Awe of God by John Bevere:
“Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”” Exodus 20:20 NIV
This verse encourages us to ponder on these questions: What is the main purpose of God delivering Israel out of Egypt? What is the main purpose for God delivering me from slavery to the bondages of the world?
A purpose was fear. Not all fear is bad fear. God delivered Israel out of Egypt to bring the people together in a common fear of the Lord. He freed them from slavery and fed them in the wilderness through miracles, and the people learnt to fear the power of the Lord, but not be scared of it because if God is for them who can be against them. All of the plagues he did in Egypt reignited the Israelites fear for the Lord, so they understood who was God, Creator of the world, and who wasn’t.
All God wants is for us to grow closer to him, the Lord will not create any ways for that not to happen, and he will break all chains if you are willing so that you can not be separate from God, but to grow closer and more intimate every day. God also frees us so that daily we can understand and know that he is God, and nothing or no one else in the world deserves to be feared but our Lord. This is a good fear. A fear that is secured in a loving relationship initiated by God. A fear that is based in love and gratitude for the Lord who loves and saves us.
God is for us.
So, I want to encourage you to think on these questions and to know that the Holy fear of God is a necessity, and something Jesus asked us to do.
