Enkindle - Prayer in the new testament
Prayer in the New Testament is προσευχή (prosefkhé), and is a compound of two words:
Πρός (pros): Meaning towards or in the direction of.
Εὐχή (efkhé): Meaning wish or desire.
When combined, προσευχή (prosefkhé) the word conveys the idea of directing one’s wishes, desires, or petitions toward God.
With this in mind, let me offer some thoughts around prayer, words which you can utter towards our God.
“Our Father, here in a space of silence I come to you in prayer, to move towards your wishes and desires in humility and in faith.”
Prayer I talk with you, the divine one with an open and willing heart.
Peace I go into the place of silence, tranquillity and harmony.
Presence I move into your space, that place where you can be seen and felt.
Present To be present with you, being aware that I am with you here and now.
Purpose To understand our calling and mission as being the same as yours.
Patience And with all this, the ability to wait and trust in your guidance and word.
Reflect I will contemplate your words having them always on my lips.
Renew You make all things new – I am new, a new creation!
Reconcile Restore our broken relationships bringing healing to them.
Reverence With fearful respect I hold to your precepts and promises.
Resilient Living in the grace to recover from challenges throughout life and in faith.
Aware I shall be mindful of all things taught by your Spirit.
Act Mindful to act in accordance to your will and ways.
Accept To embracing others where they are in hope of their transformation.
Authentic Being true to oneself in the spiritual journey with myself and others.
Abundance Recognising the gifts and blessings in life no matter how big or small.
Yield I shall surrender to your divine will, your plans, and purposes.
Yearn With deep desire for your Spirit’s guidance.
Yes Affirming faith and commitment to your work here, and in all the Earth.
Yoked With you and my spiritual community, joined purposefully with Christ.
Youthful And embracing a spirit of openness and curiosity in faith so I may grow.
Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
