Letting go, to move forward…..
Have you ever felt stuck or like you are treading water in life ? This is something that I have often felt, and sometimes in my walk with the Lord.
There are times when you need to wait on the Lord but this is purposeful- a time set aside .
That stuck feeling is different and often requires action from us. It may be that we have followed a plan of our own design rather than the one that God has for us. It may feel like a good plan but is it the right one?
Fear can often be the thing that holds us back from making the necessary changes in our lives or stepping out into a new direction. Fear can manifest itself in many ways.
Fear of failure.
Fear of making a fool of ourselves.
Fear that we won’t be accepted.
Fear of being judged.
Fear of overcommitting.
In 2 Timothy 1:6-8 Paul says ‘for this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and of self control.’
Maybe it is purely a matter of exercising our faith. This is easier said than done, believe me I understand. The easy option is to stay quiet or not to act, but this is not how we as children of the Living God should lead our lives and will only result in discontent and regret.
Matthew 14:28-33 ‘And Peter answered him,”Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water”.He said “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out,”Lord, save me.”Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him,”O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Peter still exercised faith, but became distracted by what was going on around him. This can happen so easily in life which is full of distractions and if we’re not careful we too can take our eyes off Jesus and let ourselves lose focus on where he wants to lead us.
To move forward in life we simply cannot afford to miss out on meditating on God’s word.
Psalm 1:1-4 ‘Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners ,nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all he does, he prospers.’
Let’s all make a point of encouraging one another in our walk with Jesus and in exercising the gifts that he has given us. God is not looking for perfection but a willing and obedient heart, in our weakness he is strong.
